A taste of Amsterdam in Edinburgh

Established in 1988 in Amsterdam, Greenwoods has been a brunch staple in The Netherlands capital for years, with two locations along the famous city waterways. The brand launched their first UK venue this week in the heart Edinburgh, bringing a taste of the Dutch city to the Scottish capital.

With the general manager being Scottish it was only a matter of time before the brand would make the jump to Scotland. In Edinburgh, Greenwoods will combine their Dutch roots with local Scottish produce to create a harmonious and delicious brunch menu.

Alongside traditional brunch classics like the Full Scottish Breakfast, Eggs Benedict, gully-loaded Pancake Stacks, and their speciality Eggs Greenwoods - two poached eggs on homemade soda bread, with cottage cheese, rocket, and flaked almonds - they also offer monthly specials and seasonal dishes, encouraging further exploration for diners. Served alongside top quality coffee, tea, Mimosas, Bloody Marys, or the intriguing White Chocolate and Lavender Hot Chocolate, Greenwoods takes brunch to a higher level.

Jen Nelson, director of Greenwoods explains: "We try to make as many homemade products with local produce as we can. Cakes, sweet treats, chutneys and of course our soda bread, which made a name for itself in Amsterdam.

A lunch menu is also available at Greenwoods, where diners can choose from a variety of dishes such as the Cajun Melt (grilled chicken with smoked bacon, avocado, homemade coleslaw, rocket, cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, served on homemade toasted soda bread), the Calamari Po Boy (fried calamari, crispy lettuce, aioli, dill pickles, red chillies, and spring onions on a toasted soft bun), or the BBQ Pulled Pork Burger (slow cooked BBQ pulled pork, with a red cabbage slaw on a toasted brioche bun).

The restaurant will also add some traditional Dutch elements to their menu, like a homemade Appeltaart with lashings of whipped cream, all served in a setting that reminds customers of the restaurant’s Dutch roots.

Greenwoods opened its doors at 61 Frederick Street on Thursday 20th May. Booking is advised. For more information, reservations, or to view the full menu please visit: https://greenwoods.eu/restaurant/edinburgh/
