Edinburgh Craft Beer Festival Postpones

Edinburgh Craft Beer Festival (ECBF) was set to go ahead at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange this weekend. Despite current restrictions, the organisers promised the event will proceed at the new venue which allowed safe social distancing due to the size of the venue and their beer garden. Unfortunately, Team ECBF have issued the following statement confirming the event has been postponed until July 2021.

"It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce that we have been forced to postpone Edinburgh Craft Beer Festival 2020 until 2021.

Policy changes and news in the last 48hrs has meant we cannot proceed with ECBF20 and so we’ll be returning to original dates in July 2021.

The City of Edinburgh Council made the announcement yesterday to not allow events that encourage mass gatherings. This has come as quite a shock to us, and out of the blue after events were a key part of the roadmap out of COVID.

Also, having received assurances and feedback on our format (everyone seated, but bar service) in the last 24hrs we have been told this is under review and can be revoked at anytime to strict table service only. This change in the last day dramatically impacts the experiential element of our events and it’s operation.

Lastly, the Deputy First Minister and National Clinical Director have both in the last two days stated the likely occurrence of further restrictions and lockdown during the half term period, which begins as our festival does. We simply cannot commence the build of the festival on Monday, while this is seen as a likely scenario from The Government.

We have been working tirelessly, adapting to new rules, shape shifting into an event that passes the many and constantly changing criteria to get the go-ahead. Last month we held a fantastic festival in Bristol, which only gave us more hope of pulling off an exciting event in our amazing new Edinburgh venue, The Corn Exchange this month. We are gutted beyond belief.

On a positive note, we’re delighted to say that ECBF will be back as advertised 16-17 July 2021. This will be ECBF bigger and better than ever, with more breweries, more food, more people and more space. We’ll be going into 2021 with a bigger determination than ever to celebrate the world’s finest beverage. We can’t wait to host you for what we know will be an emotional reunion.

We’re asking everyone to support us through this moment, as per our previous T&Cs every ticket for this year’s festival is valid for 2021 and 2022. We’ll be making it up to all ticket holders with special brewery surprises in 2021. If you cannot make those dates please email the team to transfer your ticket to any of our other festivals, (London Craft Beer Festival, Beer Central Festival Birmingham, Bristol Craft Beer Festival) or use as credit for our new craft beer music festival, Bigfoot.

If you have any questions around tickets please contact info@edinburghcraftbeerfestival.co.uk

We can only thank you for your patience and support. It’s been a tough old year, but we can’t wait to see you in 2021.
