New tour dates, a new remix: SG Lewis continues to bring his music to the forefront

SG Lewis, or Sam Lewis, is a musician, singer-songwriter and record producer who graces us with not one but two announcements: new tour dates in North America this Autumn and a new single which is a remix of the Bee Gee’s ‘More Than A Woman’.

SG Lewis hails from Reading, England and was a resident DJ in the Chibuku Club, Liverpool where he had the opportunity to work with other DJ’s such as Ben Klock and Andy C. He signed a record deal with PMR records in 2014, and has since grown releasing EP’s and singles throughout the years, with his debut album released February 2021.

His latest single since the release of the album is a remix of the 1977 hit Bee Gee’s ‘More Than A Woman’ which SG Lewis was invited to remix by the co-founder of the band, Sir Barry Gibb. Along with his brothers, Maurice and Robin, they formed the Brothers Gibb, or the Bee Gee’s; which is one of the most successful vocal groups. Barry is also of the most successful songwriter and producer to date as he has a combined collection of over 35 #1 singles. The original version of ‘More Than A Woman’ was a hit on TikTok this past spring as more than 363,000 videos were created using the track.

His new track is a 70’s bop with a modern electric twist. Speaking about the remix, SG Lewis says; “‘More Than A Woman’ is one of the greatest songs of all time, and to be asked to reimagine it was both a huge honor, and an extremely intimidating task at the same time. I wanted to take the love and euphoria of the original and place it in the context of the dance floor whilst keeping the original very much in tact. Making this edit made me dream of the post pandemic dance floors that are within touching distance now, and I hope that it can soundtrack a few of them as we come together to dance one again.”

Earlier this year, February 2021, he released his debut album times which peaked at the No. 1 position in UK dance chart. For the project, SG Lewis invited a plethora of artists to work alongside him and they have created sensational tunes to dance to all night. Artists such as Robyn and Channel Tres, Lucky Daye and Nile Rodgers are just a few of the artists who feature on this debut album. Aiden Cullen directed the video for ‘One More Time (feat. Nile Rodgers)’ for which Pitchfork have hailed Rodgers’ guitar work ‘kinetic’ and the overall tune ‘a glistening ode to party flirting and the best track on the album’.

Sam said about his debut album; “times is an ode to the present moment. 2020 has shown us that the experiences we took for granted in the past, are never promised tomorrow, and that the opportunity to dance together may not always be there again. After reading about 70’s New York and the birth of Disco, I became infatuated with the euphoria and escapism that the music from that period created, and the safe spaces the clubs at the time provided for people to express themselves. I aimed to create a world musically that captured those same feelings, and to imagine the music that would be playing in those rooms if they were to exist today.”

The artist also announces four tour dates in North America this Autumn for which you can buy tickets here.
