Shygirl drops orchestral 'Cleo' before Scotland tour dates

Updated: Dec 16, 2021

After recently releasing 'Cleo' as a single, Shygirl has dropped a stripped-back version recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Part of the legendary London recording studio's programming to celebrate their 90th Anniversary, the performance was shot and recorded in Studio 1 entirely in one take.

The video sees Shygirl perform Cleo as we've never heard it before, accompanied by a single backup singer and an 18-piece string ensemble. This combination makes for a newfound appreciation of the composition, with the lack of electronic production allowing the other elements of the track room to breathe and take on a life of their own.

'Cleo at Abbey Road' comes hot on the heels of the original version's music video, directed by Trinity Ellis. Shygirl's recent exploits have also seen her collaborate with slowthai on 'BDE' and direct a short film for Burberry based on her ALIAS EP. Pitchfork praised the latter as "a glittering portal into the future", while Rolling Stone proclaimed that "Shygirl has emerged as the soundtrack of the moment".

The orchestral version of 'Cleo' also arrives after the news that Shygirl will embark on a tour of the UK and Europe early next year. Domestic dates include shows at Glasgow and Edinburgh for her Scottish fans.

You can catch Shygirl in Scotland at the following dates:
